Improving your home can involve upfront costs, but there is financial support available to help. This includes grants, loans and national schemes. What you can access will depend on your circumstances, your property and the type of work.

Different types of support are available depending on your situation. You may be able to get help if you are:

a homeowner
a private tenant (with your landlord’s permission)
a landlord
on a low income or receiving certain benefits

If you live in the Bath and North East Somerset area, you may qualify for these local grant schemes.

Bright Green Homes (also known as the Warm Homes Local Grant)

This scheme may provide funding for improvements such as insulation or heating upgrades, depending on your circumstances.

Affordable Warmth Grant

This local grant supports lower-income households with smaller or essential improvements to make homes warmer and more energy efficient. This may include:

loft or cavity wall insulation
heating repairs
window improvements

You may be eligible if your household income is below a certain level and your home has a lower energy efficiency rating.

There are also national grants available for certain types of work.

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

You may be able to get a grant to install low carbon heating equipment, such as a heat pump.

If you're not eligible for a grant, you may still be able to spread the cost of home energy upgrades, through a loan with preferential rates and repayment terms. Bath & North East Somerset Council work together with Lendology to offer these services, and you may be able to borrow money, even if you've had problems getting credit elsewhere.

Home Improvement Loans

These help with the cost of carrying out essential repairs to help keep your home safe, warm and weathertight. You can use them for work such as:

electrical safety work

You can easily check online if you qualify for home energy grants and funding schemes with the Energy Saving Genie free checker tool.
