The Energy Champions programme is a project to attract, train and support a group of community volunteers who want to help others save energy at home and explore ways to live more sustainably. It's run by Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) , a not-for-profit community business that tackles climate change through clean energy generation and energy efficiency measures in homes.
What Energy Champions do Energy Champions work within their communities, to provide friendly, local advice to help people lower their energy bills, improve their home's energy efficiency, and access grants and support. This might include:
hosting or contributing to talks and events on home energy helping people find resources, advice and information becoming a point of contact within the community supporting people who are vulnerable or struggling to pay their energy bills promoting energy efficiency projects or policies, to encourage local support attending events such as parish council meetings BWCE provide free training for Energy Champions, ongoing support, and a chance to meet up with other volunteers in the role, to share ideas and experiences.
"What I liked most about the training was meeting people to hear about their activities."
- John Patterson, Energy Champion
