Are you interested in saving energy, but don't know where to start? Chatting with an Energy Champion is a great way to open the conversation about home energy in a friendly and informal way, with someone who understands your community and your concerns.
Why we have Energy Champions We believe the future of energy is local. We set up the Energy Champions programme to enable communities to help each other save energy, cut their fuel bills and lower their carbon footprint. We recognise the unique value of personal experience and local knowledge. And we believe that a friendly, locally-based person may be in the best position to understand your circumstances and needs. We have Energy Champions to help people discover information and access services that might otherwise seem out of reach.
Every Energy Champion volunteer has a passion for supporting others to make practical differences in their everyday lives. Through the programme, we bring together people from a wide variety of backgrounds, train and support them to become experts in saving energy. In turn, they offer their time and energy to share this knowledge and experience with neighbours, colleagues, family and friends.
How they can help you Energy Champions can help in a wide variety of ways, such as:
giving clear, accurate home energy efficiency advice signposting you to expert organisations and support services explaining grants and funding you could apply for sharing their own experience of lowering their carbon footprint identifying useful resources on energy topics for public meetings or educational events putting you in touch with other like-minded people
'I only stopped for a quick chat, but I found out about help with my bills and received practical items to help keep my home warmer.'
